Steve C explores the area known as the birth place of Russia
22.08.2007 - 30.08.2007 28 °C
Phew, I finally have time to sort out my email contacts which somehow got lost in the system between various email accounts. Russia is not the easiest place to send and receive emails, mobiles and international calls at any time. And its been all go over here with not much opportunity to get online.
After finally extracting myself from Australia with all sorts of last minute hassles, I finally made it to Moscow, then spent a week in St Petrersburg, as per my previous posting.
This week I have just completed a 3 day whirl wind tour of the Golden Ring area north east of Moscow. Saw many churches and Museums in Alexandrov, Rostov, Yaroslavl, Suzdal and Vladimir. Golden domes galore, and original painting and icons by Andrei Rublev et al circa 1000-1200 ad plus. Magnificent medieval world art. Many photos to come.
In the end I didnt see much of Moscow, except the underground Metro railway which is an over the top underground palace for 9 million commuters every day, more than London and New York combined. Even more photos to come.
I am now in Prague staying temporarily in a VERY nice serviced apartment with a GREAT all you can eat breakfast, allfor a moderately expensive, but affordable sum, just off Wenceslas Square near the National Museum. I am very tempted to stay here, but will move to cheaper digs tonight. I will be able to stay here for a week for nought with my friend Klara once I contact her this weekend.
Then I'm off to Vienna, Budapest and Krakow for a week, before returning again to Prague. Anyway, all's going well. Am having a great time. Robbie the Robot say 'hello'.
Ciao for now,
